About Spire Labs

Spire Labs is one of the earliest contributors to based sequencing research in the Ethereum ecosystem.

We're building the Based Stack, an open-source framework that lets application teams launch their own appchains as L2s and L3s, synchronously composable with Ethereum L1 and any other Ethereum L2.

In a landscape of fragmented rollups and island-nation L2s, based rollups hand sequencing back to

Ethereum's validators, preserving the network effects, liquidity, and credible neutrality that make Ethereum what it is. Spire sits at the front of that movement, alongside Pylon (our app-specific sequencing layer), DA Builder, and active contributions to Fabric and native rollup standards.

We're a religiously focused team of crypto-natives with MEV, quant, systems, and protocol engineering backgrounds, all working toward a single vision: making Ethereum appchains better, without making them islands. Seed-backed by leading crypto investors. Distributed globally. Dangerously based.

The role

We're hiring our Chief Marketing Officer to own the narrative, positioning, and go-to-market for Spire across developers, ecosystem, and institutions.

This is a hands-on, player-coach role, not a layer of abstraction. You will be the person writing the thread, briefing the journalist, shaping the keynote, and sitting in the Telegram group with a lead protocol team debating why based is the right architectural bet. You'll build the function as you go, with the mandate and budget to hire underneath you as traction demands.

You'll work directly with the co-founders and engineering leadership to translate deeply technical work (based sequencing, preconfirmations, synchronous composability, blob aggregation) into narrative and demand across three distinct audiences:

Developers and protocol teams evaluating where to deploy their appchain

The Ethereum ecosystem: researchers, L1/L2 teams, thought leaders, and crypto-native community Institutions: funds, exchanges, and enterprise teams building on Ethereum rails

What you'll own

Narrative and positioning. Own Spire's story end-to-end. Sharpen how we talk about based rollups, the Based Stack, Pylon, and our role in the broader Ethereum scaling thesis. Make the technical case legible without dumbing it down.

Content engine. Run the full content surface area, including long-form research posts, technical blogs, litepaper updates, video, podcast appearances, X presence for the company and co-founders, newsletter, and documentation marketing. You'll write, edit, and direct.

Launch and campaign execution. Drive marketing for every mainnet milestone, partnership announcement, ecosystem integration, and appchain launch on the Based Stack. Turn engineering releases into moments the ecosystem actually pays attention to.

Developer and ecosystem marketing. Work closely with DevRel and BD to turn the Based Stack into the default deployment choice for appchains. Hackathons, grants programs, workshops, conference presence, and Devcon / Devconnect / EthCC strategy.

Institutional and enterprise marketing. Build the materials, case studies, and channels needed to reach funds, exchanges, and enterprises evaluating Ethereum scaling infrastructure.

PR and analyst relations. Own relationships with crypto media (The Block, Blockworks, Bankless, The Defiant, Unchained), research shops (Delphi, Messari, Galaxy, 2077), and the core Ethereum research community.

Brand. Evolve and protect the Spire brand, including visual identity, voice, and the cultural posture that makes a based-native team distinct from the sea of L2s.

Team and agency management. Scale the marketing function as we grow. Hire, brief, and manage contractors, agencies, and full-time hires across content, design, community, and growth.

What we're looking for

  • 7+ years in marketing, with at least 3 in crypto, and ideally direct experience at an L1, L2, rollup framework, infrastructure protocol, or adjacent category (MEV, sequencing, DA, staking infra).
  • Genuine technical fluency. You don't need to write Solidity, but you need to hold your own on rollup architecture, sequencing, MEV, data availability, and Ethereum roadmap debates. You've read the Fabric docs. You follow Justin Drake's threads. You have an opinion on based vs. shared sequencing.
  • Proven writer and communicator. Your writing carries weight in this ecosystem. You can ship a thread that gets picked up by Ethereum researchers and a blog post that lands a partnership in the same week.
  • Hands-on operator. You're equally comfortable running a strategy session and shipping the deck, the post, and the announcement yourself. You've been the first or second marketing hire before, or you want to be.
  • Multi-audience range. You understand that the message for a protocol founder, a Devcon audience, and a fund analyst are three different messages, and you can build for all three without diluting any of them.
  • Network. You have existing relationships across Ethereum research, crypto media, and the L2 founder community, or you can credibly demonstrate you'll build them fast.
  • Taste. You have a point of view on brand, design, and how crypto-native teams should show up.
  • Values alignment. Disintermediation, censorship resistance, open source, credible neutrality: these aren't buzzwords for you.

Nice to have

  • Experience marketing a developer platform or SDK / framework
  • Background in content, research, or journalism before marketing
  • Existing public profile in crypto (X, Farcaster, Substack, podcast)
  • Early-stage startup experience (Seed to Series A)
  • Experience with token launches and token-related comms (without this being your primary frame for the role)

Why Spire

  • Build the marketing function at one of the defining teams in Ethereum's next scaling chapter.
  • Direct line to the co-founders; real scope to shape strategy, not execute someone else's.
  • Fully remote, globally distributed team of serious operators.
  • Work on one of the most intellectually interesting surfaces in crypto right now; based rollups are
  • genuinely new ground, and the narrative is being written in real time.
  • Backed by top-tier crypto investors, with stable funding runway.
