Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Ruby Developer to join our team, where you will take end-to-end ownership of solutions and lead a group of talented engineers.

Please note that for positions in Ukraine, we only consider candidates who are currently based in Ukraine or plan to return in the near future. Remote work is available only from Ukraine.

With a strong focus on customization, performance, and extensibility, you will play a key role in building fast, high-converting checkout experiences across modern ecommerce platforms. You’ll drive architectural decisions, ensure high-quality delivery, and foster a culture of collaboration and innovation in a remote-first environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own team solutions from requirements analysis through deployment and production support
  • Design, build, and expand APIs and services that power flexible and customizable checkout experiences
  • Ensure high standards of quality, performance, security, and reliability across all deliverables
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture
  • Drive architectural decisions with a focus on scalability, extensibility, and API-first development
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product Design Frontend Business) to align on requirements and deliver seamless payment experiences
  • Maintain and extend integrations with payment providers while ensuring compliance and security best practices
  • Contribute to frontend customization capabilities using React where needed
  • Conduct code reviews and enforce engineering best practices and standards
  • Leverage monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus Sentry Kibana) to ensure operational excellence
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues in a timely manner
  • Break down product requirements into actionable tasks and ensure timely delivery
  • Identify technical risks and dependencies and proactively mitigate them
  • Evaluate new technologies and continuously improve team processes and workflows

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in software development with strong expertise in Ruby
  • Proven experience in a technical leadership or team lead role
  • Solid experience with PHP (8+) and modern frontend technologies particularly React
  • Strong background in designing scalable microservices and RESTful APIs
  • Experience with API-first development and building extensible platforms
  • Familiarity with payment systems e-commerce platforms or third-party integrations
  • Experience working with cloud platforms (e.g. Google Cloud Platform)
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus Sentry and Kibana
  • Strong understanding of system design scalability and performance optimization
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a remote-first environment

Nice to have

  • Experience with Scala or working in hybrid tech stacks
  • Background in high-load or fintech environments
  • Experience building SDKs or developer platforms
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Track record of driving complex initiatives from idea to production
  • Experience balancing delivery speed with long-term technical quality
