Overview

We are seeking an experienced Technical IoT Consultant with deep expertise in Real-Time Location Services (RTLS) to provide hands-on technical leadership, architectural guidance, and implementation support for RTLS product platforms. This contract role is ideal for a seasoned IoT professional who has delivered multiple RTLS or IoT edge-to-cloud platforms from design through production.

Responsibilities

  • Define and optimize RTLS architecture across device, gateway/edge, cloud, and application layers
  • Advise on technology selection such as BLE and UWB
  • Advise on architectural documents, data models, integration patterns, and security frameworks
  • Conduct technical assessments and identify short-term fixes and long-term strategic improvements
  • Guide engineering teams in building or refining RTLS services, APIs, microservices, data pipelines, and edge software
  • Support MVP design, pilot deployments, beta programs, and general availability launches
  • Advise on design and validate site survey processes, RF tuning, calibration, and deployment guidelines
  • Advise on CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code patterns, and environment automation for Azure, AWS, or GCP
  • Advise on operational frameworks for monitoring, alerting, device health, telemetry quality, and data latency
  • Recommend tools and methods for device fleet management including OTA updates and provisioning
  • Advise on runbooks, operational workflows, troubleshooting playbooks, and escalation procedures
  • Support performance optimization for accuracy, power consumption, gateway uptime, and cost efficiency
  • Provide expert input on customer implementations including design sessions, integrations, and tracking use cases
  • Participate in site surveys, POCs, pilots, and production cutovers as needed
  • Troubleshoot deployment challenges and recommend scalable fixes
  • Review and strengthen device-to-cloud security including identity, certificates, encryption, and access controls
  • Provide guidance for compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, or industry-specific regulatory needs
  • Conduct risk analysis, threat modeling, and posture improvement recommendations

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in IoT architecture, engineering, or consulting
  • Hands-on experience delivering at least one RTLS platform with BLE, UWB, RFID, LoRaWAN, or hybrid technologies
  • Strong proficiency with cloud IoT services including Azure IoT Hub, AWS IoT, or GCP IoT Core
  • Expertise in device messaging protocols such as MQTT and AMQP, event-driven architectures like Kafka or Event Hubs, and time-series or location data stores
  • Skills in spatial mapping, geofencing, and positioning algorithms
  • Background with edge computing, Docker or containerization, and gateway software
  • Experience conducting site surveys, RF planning, and performance validation
  • Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder-facing consulting skills
  • Certifications: Azure Architect/Developer, AWS IoT Specialty, or comparable credentials

Nice to have

  • Experience with Azure Digital Twins or similar spatial modeling platforms
  • Familiarity with hard-wired sensor optimization, firmware OTA strategies, or embedded development
  • Industry experience in warehousing, airports, stadiums, or retail
