The Cybersecurity vertical is Packt’s base for security practitioners, ethical hackers, defenders, auditors, and system protectors operating in an increasingly adversarial digital world. Role Overview

As a Content Engineer in the Cybersecurity vertical, you will be responsible for owning the content lifecycle from concept to publication. You’ll work closely with Relationship Leads, Growth Leads, and Authors to shape each learning product so it delivers quality and real-world impact.

This means your role isn’t just about editing manuscripts. You are expected to engineer content at every stage of the product, evaluating book outlines, strengthening structure, coaching authors, ensuring each product is practitioner-focused and insight-rich, and keeping content aligned with evolving threat landscapes.

The scope of your work goes beyond books. As part of our Books+ initiative, you will enhance learning experiences with multi-format layers such as labs, simulations, attack/defense walkthroughs, and scenario-based exercises. You’ll also contribute to non-book formats such as newsletters, threat briefings, and live security workshops.

What You Will Do

Editorial & Product Development

  • Evaluate proposals and outlines with a focus on audience relevance, real-world applicability, and differentiation.
  • Perform substantive edits to strengthen clarity, structure, and learning outcomes.
  • Ensure content goes beyond theory to include practical attack scenarios, defensive strategies, and decision-making trade-offs.

Author & Expert Collaboration

  • Coach authors to translate expertise into actionable, hands-on learning.
  • Guide them to include real-world case studies, tools, and workflows.
  • Build strong relationships with cybersecurity experts, practitioners, and researchers.

Strategic & Multi-Format Contribution

  • Collaborate on product launches and positioning for cybersecurity audiences.
  • Enhance books with labs, simulations, red-team/blue-team exercises, and walkthroughs.
  • Contribute to derived formats such as threat briefings, research explainers, live hacking demos, and cohort-based training.

Research & Market Awareness

  • Track trends across threat landscapes, vulnerabilities, compliance requirements, and AI-driven security challenges.
  • Benchmark against competing learning resources and certifications.
  • Feed insights into product strategy to keep Packt at the forefront of cybersecurity education.

Quality & Process Ownership

  • Own quality sign-off for all products.
  • Balance speed-to-market with depth and accuracy.
  • Ensure technical correctness, clarity, and adherence to ethical/security standards.

Who You Are

The work we do is fast-paced, demanding, and intellectually challenging. We are looking for candidates with a strong interest in cybersecurity and in helping professionals stay ahead in an evolving threat landscape.

  • A critical thinker who balances technical depth with user-focused content design.
  • Curious about cybersecurity domains, from ethical hacking to governance and AI security.
  • Strong communicator and collaborator across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Adaptable across long-form content (books) and fast-moving formats (threat briefings, labs).

Must-have skills:

  • 4+ years in editorial/content development for technical or instructional products.
  • Ability to translate complex security concepts into clear, structured learning.
  • Strong author/SME management experience.
  • Excellent English-language proficiency and editorial judgment.
  • Quality-first mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to contribute beyond editing, including labs, simulations, and multi-format learning products.

Good-to-have skills:

  • Familiarity with cybersecurity domains (network security, pentesting, GRC, forensics, etc.).
  • Experience with hands-on labs, simulations, or technical training formats.
  • Awareness of AI in cybersecurity (both offensive and defensive use cases).
  • Project management experience across multiple content streams.

Salary Range - INR 55K-85K fixed pay per month (skills and/or experience dependent)
