Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Database Administrator to manage and modernize our database systems.


This role requires proficiency in MS SQL Server administration, performance tuning, and cluster and availability group management for optimal database functionality.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and support MS SQL Server (2016 and above), including installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching
  • Diagnose and resolve database-related downtime and ensure high system availability
  • Apply security principles to monitor and maintain secure access to databases
  • Ensure backup solutions meet Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO) goals
  • Analyze and enhance database performance through tools like query execution plans and wait statistics
  • Perform index maintenance, consistency checks, and log usage monitoring
  • Restore lower-level environments from production backups on a regular and ad hoc basis
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors during patches or installations of their systems
  • Aid teams across the organization, including non-IT departments, in resolving SQL-related issues
  • Optimize automation of database management tasks, reducing manual workload
  • Provide support for MDS, SSAS, SSIS, SSRS, and Power BI environments when necessary
  • Address database-related service desk tickets in a timely and efficient manner

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in SQL Server administration, with expertise in MS SQL Server 2016 and newer versions
  • Knowledge of advanced SQL Server features, including Columnstore, Query Store, Extended Events, and Partitioning
  • Skills in performance tuning, diagnosing query execution plans, and analyzing wait statistics
  • Competency in clustering and multi-site availability groups
  • Background in SQL backups using Cohesity or CommVault
  • Proficiency in automating DBA practices through T-SQL and PowerShell
  • Familiarity with SCOM, ITIL standards, and writing technical documentation
  • Microsoft SQL Server certification
  • Fluent communication skills in English at a B2+ level

  • Understanding of Microsoft Azure solutions
  • Competency in Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services
