Job Role: Evacuation Diagram Draftsperson

Compensation range: $2,000 AUD / Monthly

Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement

Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Who The Client Is: An Australia-based fire safety and building compliance service provider that specialises in delivering end-to-end emergency planning solutions, evacuation diagrams, compliance documentation, and site safety consulting for commercial, industrial, and multi-site facilities. The organisation works with a wide range of property managers, facility operators, and compliance stakeholders across Australia.

Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Evacuation Diagram Draftsperson to support a high-volume service line focused on evacuation diagram development for Australian client sites. You will be responsible for converting hand-annotated building plans and scanned drawings into compliant evacuation diagrams using supplied templates and Australian-standard guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft compliant evacuation diagrams from:
    • scanned building plans
    • hand-marked floor plans
    • client annotations and redlines
  • Convert manual inputs into clean, professional evacuation diagrams.
  • Apply Australian Standards AS3745 for evacuation signs and diagrams.
  • Use standardised templates, legends, and symbol libraries.
  • Ensure correct placement of:
    • evacuation routes
    • emergency exits
    • fire extinguishers and fire equipment
    • assembly areas
    • “You Are Here” markers
  • Ensure diagrams are accurate, legible, and compliance-ready.
  • Maintain consistency across high-volume drafting workloads.
  • Conduct self-quality checks before submission.
  • Update diagrams based on building or fire equipment changes.
  • Maintain strict file naming, version control, and documentation standards.
  • Adhere to confidentiality and data security protocols at all times.
  • Support ongoing production workflows and long-term client deliverables.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven background as a Draftsperson / CAD Technician / Technical Illustrator.
  • Experience producing evacuation diagrams, fire safety plans, and building layout or compliance drawings.
  • Strong understanding of Australian fire safety compliance.
  • Ability to interpret architectural floor plans and annotated sketches.
  • Experience working in high-volume drafting environments.
  • Proficiency in drafting tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Visio, or equivalent.
  • Strong attention to detail and compliance accuracy.
