Job Description
This is a customer‑facing role within the Sales Business Development team, responsible for driving future revenue growth by identifying, shaping, and enabling strategic opportunities in pharma and biopharma that leverage Agilent’s cell analysis and broader enterprise portfolio.
Sales business development represents Agilent at the enterprise level—identifying and catalyzing emerging opportunities before they appear as defined sales opportunities, building strategic relationships that open doors for Agilent, and ensuring Agilent remains at the forefront of priority end markets.
This role will focus on the Pharma/Biopharma end market in the United States, with specific expertise in cell analysis technologies. You will interface with internal teams (divisions, segment marketing, enterprise business development) and the field sales organization to represent Agilent’s enterprise portfolio across cell analysis and adjacent analytical workflows in customer engagements.
Responsibilities include leveraging relationships within pharma and biopharma to open new doors for the sales organization, nurturing relationships with key opinion leaders who influence platform, modality, and workflow decisions, and supporting strategic prospecting in partnership with sales. You will also serve as an interface between the field sales organization and business intelligence—identifying market trends (e.g., onshoring, pricing pressures) and emerging opportunities (e.g., complex, high‑value modalities) and translating these insights into concrete opportunity‑shaping guidance for sales and marketing teams.
This role operates within a matrix organization, partnering with sales, product specialists, and field application scientists to shape opportunities without owning the quote or close, ensuring clarity of roles and effective handoff to the sales organization.
Success in this role is measured by the creation and acceleration of high‑value, multi‑portfolio opportunities and the strength of strategic relationships established across the pharma/biopharma ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities:
Identify emerging trends and unmet needs in pharma/biopharma
Build senior‑level relationships with pharma and biopharma stakeholders
Act as a catalyst—connecting customers, sales, applications, and product teams
Translate VOC into actionable insights for Segment, PL, and leadership teams
Support field teams with strategic positioning (not product selling)
This role is not a product specialist or field applications role. It is not focused on executing demos, pricing, or negotiations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or advanced degree in life sciences or equivalent industry experience with demonstrated scientific credibility in pharma/biopharma; advanced degree is preferred
4+ years of experience should include direct involvement in decision‑making workflows (e.g. target selection, potency assessment, candidate progression, or comparability decisions)
Required experience engaging with Pharma/biopharma Directors, VPs, Heads of R&D or Translational Leads
Must have real experience in at least one of the following:
Cell analysis in pharma or biopharma R&D
Biologics, ADC, CGT, or GLP-1 workflows
Cell-based assays tied to drug development decisions
Strong understanding of the pharma/biopharma value chain
Experience working cross-functionally in matrixed organizations
Help define where and how Agilent should play in future pharma/biopharma workflows, particularly as modalities and regulatory expectations evolve
Not required but preferred: Prior experience transitioning from a scientific, applications, or technical role into business development, strategy, or enterprise engagement
