POSITION SUMMARY

The Merchandising Product Manager is a Product Manager with deep merchandising and category expertise who owns the shape, health, and economics of assigned product lines and assortments. This role is accountable for identifying product and assortment gaps, determining the optimal path to market (build, manufacture, or source), owning product business cases, and delivering against revenue, margin, and lifecycle performance targets. This role combines core Product Management responsibilities with advanced merchandising and category leadership, ensuring product portfolios are strategically sound, commercially viable, and effectively merchandised across wholesale e-commerce platforms and relevant reseller channels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Product Portfolio Strategy & Ownership

◦ Own product portfolio strategy and assortment gap identification. ◦ Determine product path to market (build, manufacture, or source). ◦ Build and manage product business cases including revenue, margin, pricing inputs, and unit economics. ◦ Own product lifecycle decisions including iteration, repositioning, and sunsetting.

  • Product Definition & Cross-Functional Delivery

◦ Define product requirements, success metrics, and acceptance criteria. ◦ Partner cross-functionally to deliver products effectively. ◦ Serve as the internal owner for assigned product lines.

  • Category Strategy & Assortment Optimization

◦ Analyze categories to identify assortment gaps and growth opportunities. ◦ Recommend product additions, deletions, and assortment changes. ◦ Monitor category performance and adjust strategy based on data and insights. ◦ Develop category roadmaps and assortment strategies.

  • Strategic Vendor & Manufacturer Partnership

◦ Build and maintain strong relationships with strategic vendors and manufacturers. ◦ Act as the primary product and assortment counterpart to vendors and manufacturers. ◦ Engage partners early in product discovery and lifecycle planning. ◦ Incorporate partner insights into product and assortment strategy.

  • Pricing Strategy, Vendor & Manufacturing Sourcing Model

◦ Own product-level pricing strategy, target margins, and business case assumptions. ◦ Collaborate with the Director of Engineering and sourcing team on domestic sourcing. ◦ Strongly influence overseas sourcing led by Engineering. ◦ Validate pricing and sourcing outcomes against approved business cases. ◦ Retain ownership of economic outcomes and strategic fit.

  • Merchandising Execution

◦ Develop merchandising plans aligned with category and promotional strategies. ◦ Ensure product presentation standards across platforms and partner sites. ◦ Support sales and line review activities as needed.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of Product Management experience with merchandising exposure.
  • Prior energy efficiency product or utility energy efficiency program experience highly desired.
  • Prior hardware experience highly preferred.
