GC&E Federal is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Application Developer V to support our CDC customer’s cancer registry modernization efforts through advanced software development and cloud integration. This role will focus on assisting with the implementation and enhancement of secure, scalable, and user-friendly applications deployed in the Microsoft Azure environment. The successful candidate will have expertise in .NET, Angular, Telerik (React JS), and the development of service layer components and user-facing features in a collaborative enterprise setting.

Key Experience and Skills:

  • Assist in implementing cloud-native applications using .NET & Angular within the Azure ecosystem, following existing design and architectural patterns provided by software architects and senior leads.
  • Support the enhancement of user experience (UX) components using Telerik UI Controls, ensuring intuitive and responsive front-end behavior in alignment with established design standards.
  • Develop and maintain service layer code to support business logic, data processing, and secure communication between application components.
  • Contribute to the modernization of legacy systems by helping transition functionality into Azure-hosted solutions under the guidance of architectural leadership.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, analysts, and team leads to translate functional specifications into application code.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and troubleshooting of web applications and secure messaging components for cancer pathology and physician reporting systems.
  • Participate in integrating and validating HL7© 2.x, HL7© FHIR©, and CDA data standards within public health reporting workflows.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive technical documentation for developed features and updates.
  • Work within Azure DevOps to manage tasks, source control, and participate in CI/CD workflows for secure, efficient deployment.
  • Support team activities related to software testing, quality assurance, and validation efforts.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in software development with proficiency in Microsoft .NET technologies (including C#, Entity Framework, Cosmos, and SQL Server).
  • Hands-on experience working with Telerik (React JS) UI Controls in enterprise web applications.
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Azure, including Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Key Vault, and storage services.
  • Understanding of service layer development and web service communication using RESTful APIs.
  • Experience working with XML, JSON, xPath, HL7© standards (v2.x, FHIR©, CDA).
  • Experience using Azure DevOps or TFS for work item tracking, source control, and deployment automation.
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a software team and follow direction from lead developers and software architects.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Familiarity with the CDC’s National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR) and Registry Plus applications.
  • Experience in public health, healthcare data systems, or cancer registry software.
  • Working knowledge of microservices, containerization (Docker), and modern development frameworks is a plus.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to provide status updates, raise issues, and contribute to solution discussions.

Preferred Education, Certifications, and Soft Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field required.
  • Advanced degree or technical certifications (e.g., Azure Developer Associate) preferred.
  • Strong team oral and written collaboration, skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with customers, business analysts, other developers, engineers, as well as other professional and scientific personnel
  • Experience in cancer registry operations is highly preferred
  • Experienced in customer service
  • Ability to work well under pressure

Work Environment:

  • Primarily remote, with the possibility of light travel, work environment with collaborative virtual team engagement.
  • May require occasional travel for project meetings or stakeholder engagements.
  • Regular use of computers for extended periods and must be able to manage tasks independently in a fast-paced setting.
