Technology-first hedge fund is hiring a Head of Research to build the research function as a scalable system operating at the intersection of financial markets, AI, and frontier technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Build the research function as a scalable system and design structure for small autonomous research teams.
  • Define ownership of research directions, hypotheses, datasets, and scientific problems; set clear interfaces between units.
  • Establish standards and processes for idea generation, task selection, and experiment design.
  • Create evaluation frameworks and feedback loops to make research output measurable and comparable across teams.
  • Own research priority setting, team additions, restructurings, and wind-downs.
  • Translate successful research into measurable business impact.
  • Combine quantitative research depth, managerial discipline, and organizational design to build a research machine.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience leading quantitative research, trading research, systematic strategy, or data-driven investment teams.
  • Deep understanding of trading, alpha research, portfolio construction, execution, risk, market microstructure, and the lifecycle of a trading idea from hypothesis to live deployment.
  • Ability to structure autonomous research units, define ownership areas, set interfaces, and create objective evaluation methods.
  • Strong managerial skills: hiring, onboarding, mentoring, performance management, compensation input, and conflict resolution.
  • Experience setting research priorities at the portfolio level and designing dashboards, metrics, review rituals, and decision-making processes.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to align researchers, engineers, data teams, risk, and senior stakeholders.
