This is a remote position.

We are evolving what product design looks like at Sumara, and this is the role that leads it.

The traditional product design role is built around handoff. You sketch in Figma, hand it to engineering, wait, get a build that does not match the spec, iterate, ship something close to the original idea. The handoff is where craft, speed, and intent get lost.

AI tools are changing what a product designer can do. Tools like Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, v0, and modern Figma let a designer go from idea to working prototype, and increasingly to near-production interface, faster than a traditional designer-plus-engineer pair. The handoff shrinks. The designer ships more of what they design.

This role is for product designers who want to be at the front of that shift. Whether you are already experimenting with these tools or just curious and motivated to learn, we will invest in your growth, give you the time and the support, and help you evolve into what the industry is calling a design engineer. You set the pace.

We are building a unified financial platform that combines trading, investing, crypto, and everyday spending into a single account. Five pillars. Different latencies, different mental models, different levels of complexity. All inside one app on a phone screen. In a product that moves people’s money, polish is not a nice-to-have. It is what makes the product trustworthy.

WHAT YOU OWN
  • The design system from scratch: components, primitives, tokens, motion language, accessibility patterns, built to scale across all five pillars

  • End-to-end product surfaces: discovery, exploration, high-fidelity design, prototyping, partnership with engineering through to ship

  • Animation and interaction design: gestures, transitions, micro-interactions that make the product feel alive

  • Cross-pillar consistency: making sure trading, investing, crypto, and cards feel like one product, not five

  • Your own evolution: pulling AI tools and frontend skills into your workflow over time so you can prototype and ship more of what you design directly

You work shoulder-to-shoulder with other product designers, product managers, and engineers. You own the result, not the artifact.

HOW YOU OPERATE

You are curious about AI tools and excited to make them part of your workflow. Maybe you are already using Claude or Cursor on the side. Maybe you have heard about Claude Code and v0 but have not gone deep yet. Both are fine. What matters is the direction of travel.

We will invest time, training, and tooling in helping you become self-sufficient at prototyping and shipping using AI. By the end of year one, you should be operating much closer to a design engineer than to a traditional product designer. That is the deal we are offering, and it is rare.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
  • The design system is in production within six months, with clear rules other teams adopt

  • The app has a recognisable visual and interaction signature

  • Polish gaps between pillars close. The product feels like one app, not a federation of features.

  • You are visibly more self-sufficient at prototyping and shipping by the end of year one

  • New product surfaces inherit craft instead of fighting for it

Requirements

Required

  • 5+ years as a product designer shipping consumer products at quality

  • Strong taste. You have shipped interfaces that look and feel deliberately different from the average.

  • Fluent in Figma, motion, interaction design, and design systems thinking

  • Curious about AI tools and motivated to make them part of how you work, even if you are not there yet

  • Comfort working close to code. You can read it, you understand what is happening, you are open to going deeper.

  • Intent to evolve your craft, not defend the old version of it

Strong signal

  • Already experimenting with AI tools (Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, v0, Lovable, or similar) in your workflow or side projects

  • A public portfolio, Dribbble, Codepen, GitHub, or live demos that show range across UI, motion, and craft

  • Mobile-first product experience (iOS and Android)

  • Experience contributing to a design system at a real product company

  • Frontend skills, even informal (React, React Native, modern CSS)

  • Fintech, trading, crypto, or any product where polish directly shapes user trust

  • Charting, data visualization, or real-time UI experience
