In this role, you will take ownership of designing, implementing, and evolving a business-critical industrial automation and tracking platform deployed across multiple international manufacturing facilities.
You will act as the technical authority for the Ignition ecosystem, driving architecture decisions, establishing development standards, and delivering reliable OT/IT integrations between manufacturing systems, enterprise applications, and industrial devices. This is a unique opportunity to work on a large-scale, highly regulated manufacturing environment where modern software engineering practices meet industrial automation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable Ignition 8.x multi-gateway architectures, including high-availability configurations.
- Define platform standards, including gateway configuration, tag structures, scripting frameworks, project organization, and deployment strategies.
- Build and maintain integrations between Ignition, manufacturing systems, ERP platforms, middleware, and enterprise applications.
- Develop interfaces for exchanging real-time events, commands, and production data between OT and IT environments.
- Implement and support industrial communication protocols, including OPC technologies and Modbus TCP.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, database, QA, and manufacturing teams to ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance.
- Contribute to modern software delivery practices, including Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release management.
- Support validation, compliance, and documentation activities within a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Participate in system deployments, commissioning activities, and ongoing production support.
- Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and serve as an escalation point for complex technical challenges.
Required Experience
- 8+ years of hands-on experience working with the Ignition platform, including Gateway configuration, scripting, project resources, and large-scale deployments.
- Strong expertise in designing industrial automation solutions with high availability and reliability requirements.
- Experience integrating Ignition with external systems using REST APIs, WebSockets, OPC technologies, and industrial communication protocols.
- Hands-on experience with Modbus TCP and industrial device connectivity.
- Strong understanding of OT/IT integration principles and manufacturing environments.
- Experience with Java development and familiarity with Ignition SDK or module development.
- Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server or other enterprise database platforms.
- Strong knowledge of Git-based development workflows and CI/CD practices.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional global teams.
Nice to Have:
- Experience in regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals, life sciences, medical devices, food manufacturing, or other highly controlled environments.
- Knowledge of GxP, computerized system validation (CSV), audit trails, and compliance requirements.
- Experience integrating with SAP or other ERP platforms.
- Experience with cloud integration services and hybrid OT/IT architectures.
- Experience supporting global, multi-site manufacturing deployments.
- Knowledge of industrial networking and cybersecurity best practices.
- Experience with RFID-enabled manufacturing or asset-tracking solutions.
