What you will do:

  • Design, build, and evolve the public API as the core interface for developers accessing Photoroom’s AI capabilities.
  • Ship reliable, scalable API features used by self-serve developers and enterprise customers, iterating quickly based on usage data and feedback.
  • Own API surface end-to-end: naming, versioning, structure, implementation, performance, and maintainability.
  • Work at backend-AI intersection, abstracting complex image models into elegant developer interfaces.
  • Collaborate with product, ML, backend, and sales teams to deliver real user value.

Requirements:

  • Work from France, Germany, Italy, Spain or UK.
  • English-speaking environment.
  • Strong Python backend experience building APIs for external consumers (not just internal).
  • Experience with FastAPI (or similar) with async patterns, concurrency, production debugging.
  • Owned/contributed to public-facing API design: versioning, consistency, evolution.
  • Focus on reliability, performance, developer experience; pragmatic, product-minded, ownership-driven.

Nice to have:

  • API deployment: Docker, uvicorn/gunicorn, health checks.
  • Image processing: Pillow, pyvips.
  • AI/image models behind APIs: latency, inference, abstraction.
  • Node.js experience (current migration).
  • Integrations or developer tooling.
