Если после шаблона не можете ответить на «what did you do, not the team?»
I'm a [role] with [N] years of experience, mostly in [domain / stack]. Right now I [what you own]. Recently I [one result or constraint — a number, a deadline, a risk you removed].
Before that I [one relevant past piece, not your whole CV]. I moved toward [domain] on purpose because [one reason tied to the work, not "growth"].
I'm looking for [format / timezone / type of workload]. I applied because this role asks for [one thing from the job post] — that's work I already do, not a random match.
I'm applying for a junior frontend role with React. For the last few months I've been building a practice orders dashboard: list, filters, a form, a mock API. The repo README says what's missing: auth and tests. It's a limited slice you can open, not a fake "marketplace".
I also spent two weeks on a short practice team: layouts from a mockup, Git, review comments. I don't have a full-time commercial title yet — that's honest. I can walk through the form component on a call.
I applied because your posting is about dashboards and forms, not landing pages. I'm ready for a 2–4 hour take-home in the same format.
One piece of work I'm useful for is [name the system in one line]. The constraint was [what was breaking or unclear].
My job was [your ownership], not [what was outside your control].
I [step one]. Then I [step two]. I worked with [QA / support / product] on [one concrete thing]. I did not [hero story you want to avoid].
The result was [metric, time, or risk removed]. If it failed, I say that and [what changed after]. I still use the rule: [one sentence].
One project I'm proud of is the order-status service: API for the cabinet and for support, Postgres, a queue for status emails. Reads were much higher than writes.
The painful part wasn't CPU. The order list query joined the full status history and started timing out. My job was to make the list fast without rewriting the whole product.
I dropped the join from the list endpoint and moved history to a separate screen. We added an index on (user_id, created_at) after checking explain analyze, not by guessing. For emails, we already had an event_id so retries wouldn't double-send.
List latency went back to something support could live with, and we stopped paging people for that screen. I learned not to cache a bad query — fix the query first.
Why are you leaving? / Why are you looking?
The work is stable, but the scope is no longer growing in the direction I want: I want [payments / platform / fewer night calls / a clearer review culture]. I'm not running from a conflict and I don't want to dump on my current team. The timing is planned: I can start around [date], after a normal notice.
Why this company? / Why us?
I applied because the role is about [specific workload from the posting], which matches [your last 12 months]. I also need [timezone overlap / remote / B2B] — that's in the posting, not a wish list I'm adding now. I don't have a speech about the brand. I have a match on the actual work.
Strength / weakness.
A strength people actually use: I write down the three states support can tell a customer before I ship a payments change. It slows the first version and saves night pings later. A recent example: [one sentence].
A real weakness: I used to sit too long on an unclear ticket before asking. Now I time-box 30 minutes, then I write what I know and what I need. It still happens when the spec is messy — I just don't disappear for a day.
