Butterfly is looking for a strong engineering leader based in our Taoyuan, Taiwan office. As the Senior Manager of Hardware and Operations Engineering, you will be responsible for leading a cross-functional engineering organization, spanning Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering. You will drive end-to-end product design, industrialization, and sustaining operations, ensuring alignment on cost, quality, reliability, and delivery. This is a hands-on leadership role, where you will need to own deliverables and projects yourself while also leading and coaching the team.

You will serve as a critical bridge between product development and operations, ensuring tight integration between hardware design, manufacturing processes, and post-market performance. Your organization will be responsible for defining and delivering robust hardware systems, scaling them into production, and continuously improving performance through data-driven insights from manufacturing and field returns. You will be a key technical contributor to the design and development of products, manufacturing process development, and sustaining engineering efforts while demonstrating best practices to the team and coaching them to continuously improve.

This will be achieved through an operating model where development may be done fully internally, with the support of contracting resources, or through ODM/JDM partnerships. Manufacturing runs through Contract Manufacturing and ODM partnerships.

As part of our team, your core responsibilities will be:

  • Lead an organization of Mechanical, Electrical, and Manufacturing Engineers responsible for establishing SOPs and in-line process control plans, leading change management and maintaining BOMs, and delivery of mass production.
  • Lead hardware development in partnership with cross-functional teams, ensuring strong integration between design, manufacturing, and quality.
  • Drive alignment across engineering functions to meet product cost, quality, reliability, and delivery targets throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Lead the execution of global NPI efforts, ensuring successful transition from development builds to high-volume production.
  • Own execution of prototype builds and drive design and process maturity with the cross functional teams.
  • Use design practices across Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, including DFM, DFT, and DFR to work with the team to solve problems that arise in manufacturing or development.
  • Serve as the voice of hardware and manufacturing in technical discussions, product development checkpoints, and executive reviews.
  • Drive yield improvement, cost reduction, and field reliability through close coupling of manufacturing data and failure analysis insights.
  • Contribute to improving SOPs, in-line process control plans, and BOM management across hardware and manufacturing domains.
  • Lead engineering change management across product design, manufacturing processes, and supply chain. Own coordination and smooth implementation of changes.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards across products and manufacturing operations.
  • Partner with Hardware, Quality, Marketing, Finance, Sourcing, and Supply Planning to ensure capacity and readiness to meet forecast and ramp plans.
  • Influence cross-functional teams through data-driven decision-making and clear prioritization to ensure timely execution of programs.
  • Build, develop, and scale a high-performing engineering organization, including hiring, coaching, and career development.
  • Perform a broad variety of tasks in support of the role and responsibilities.
  • Travel required, domestic (Taiwan) and international (Thailand, China, etc.), up to 25%.
