Senior Backend Engineer — Distributed Systems (Go, C++, Rust)

Company: Trineo Location: Gdynia, Poland — Remote or Hybrid Contract: B2B English: Communicative (written & spoken)

About the project

You’ll join a small, dedicated team building a cloud-based Video Surveillance platform for our client — a US company in the security industry. This role sits at the edge of that platform: Go services deployed on edge devices that handle video recording and watchdog duties, WebRTC media relay, multi-node coordination, and delivery of events into downstream alarm systems. It’s a production-grade system with real users and real uptime expectations — when something breaks here, it breaks on real hardware in the field.

We’re looking for a senior owner who can architect and ship a service end-to-end, dig deep into Go runtime behavior (goroutines, atomic pointers, race detection, pprof memory analysis), and reason about real-world distributed-systems failure modes.

What you’ll do

  • Own one or more Go services in the edge stack: recording, media relay, event bridge, or panel-side integrations

  • Build and harden multi-node coordination protocols — time-source ownership, recording handover, peer health detection

  • Diagnose tricky production issues — think “recorder restarting hundreds of times over a few hours” or “goroutine leak with multi-GB anon memory after a few hours”: read journal logs, capture coredumps, write the fix

  • Design and implement health and observability surfaces: /health endpoints, structured logs, metrics

  • Review teammates’ PRs with care and mentor on Go idioms, error handling, and testing

  • Take part in canary deploys of edge-side services

What we’re looking for

  • 5+ years of professional Go (or a comparable systems language — Rust, C++) on production services

  • Comfortable with goroutines, channels, sync/atomic, context.Context and the race detector

  • Strong PostgreSQL and MySQL fundamentals: schema migrations, query plans, transactions

  • Understanding of media protocols — RTSP, RTMP, WebRTC — or the willingness to ramp up fast

  • Linux service operations: systemd, journalctl, cgroups, /proc, ssh, package management

  • A test-first bias when fixing distributed-systems bugs

  • Communicative English — the product, codebase, and client communication are all in English

  • Ability to work mostly in Polish business hours, with flexibility to overlap with the US when needed

Nice to have

  • You’ve built or operated a video pipeline — live streaming, surveillance, or broadcast

  • Experience with pion, gortsplib, GStreamer, or similar WebRTC / RTSP stacks

  • Experience with HMAC, JWT, OAuth — security at the bytes level

  • You’ve shipped behind a feature flag and rolled back through it

What we offer

  • A long-term role on a stable, production project for an international client

  • Remote or hybrid work (Gdynia / Tricity area for hybrid)

  • Real ownership — you’ll own services end-to-end, from design to production

  • Direct collaboration with an experienced dev team and the client

  • Hard, interesting engineering problems: distributed systems, real-time video, and Go running on edge hardware

Recruitment process

  1. Intro call with Trineo

  2. Technical interview with the client

  3. Offer (or honest feedback if it’s not a match)

Trineo is a software services company based in Gdynia. For this role we’re building a dedicated development & QA team working in a time-and-material model for our client.
